My cell phone won’t work in the house – why?
Written by: Admin - Nov 24, 2009
This may sound like an odd question but…. “How old is your house?” Homes built in the early 20th century were traditional built with wire lath then skim coated with plaster as a wall covering for all the rooms, including the ceiling. The wire lath behind the walls acts like a signal block or “cage” hidden behind the walls.
My current cellular phone plans provider stinks. Not necessarily.
Most likely, if you walk out the front or back door and make a call you see 4 bars and works great. Due to all the metal in the walls, jumping from one carrier to another will not offer a resolve to receive a cell signal within your home. It’s not the provider; you’re living in a wire cage bunker that dampens cellular calls.
Why can’t I make a phone call from some rooms?
Normally that’s due to tower line of site. If you live in a gully or next to a steep hill you’re “line of sight angle” may be too steep and walking out on the deck works fine. This can occur in metro locations as well as rural. Certain business locations have attempted a Wi-Fi wireless data connection and their line of sight is blocked by a much larger, multi-story neighbor.
These are a few examples or causes of why you may be experiencing difficulties with poor or no connectivity at all.
